Mimi vs Chori Chori Chupke Chupke breaking taboos

The bollywood film Mimi is a mildly engaging comedy drama directed by Laxaman Utekar, released in netflix seems to be breaking taboos and talking about surrogacy. Although in 2001, the film Chori Chori Chupke Chupke was based on surrogacy directed by Abbas Mustan turned out to be a romantic drama.
Kriti Sanon plays the character of Mimi, the surrogate mother. Pankaj Tripathi being the driver in the film plays the role of Bhanu who later supports the protagonist in the process of motherhood while Salman Khan and Rani Mukherjee being the husband and wife in the film Chori Chori Chupke Chupke plays the role of Raj, Priya and Madhubala, the escort being the surrogate mother played by Preity Zinta.

The film revolves around the story of dancer Mimi of Rajasthan, the trials and tribulations of an aspiring actor who wants to go to Mumbai meets an American couple and agrees to be a surrogate mother in return to get a huge amount of money while in Chori Chori Chupke Chupke Raj and Priya fell in love and got married later Priya faces miscarries and gets infertile and they search for a surrogate mother who can give birth to their child and with passage of time Raj meets Madhubala and convinces her to be their surrogate mother.

Mimi from being a light hearted happy-go-lucky girl inspired to be an bollywood actor to her transformation into a nurtured fearless single mother sacrificing her dreams for her child and no caring about the societal norms has shown variations in her character. The film beautifully showed a women's development as a mother. In between the comedy punches of Bhanu kept the people intact towards the film. But in Chori Chori Chupke Chupke has shown more than the motherhood as Madhubala undergoes through a behavioral grooming and makeover to be ready to be qualified to carry Raj's child in her womb and to meet Raj's family depicted the class and standards of society.

With the American couple leaving the pregnant Mimi after the checkup of Dr Sana when they came to know that the preborn child have a down syndrome depicted the discrimination of people towards a mentally disabled child whereas hiding the truth of Madhubala and the miscarries of Priya from Raj's conservative family reflected the unacceptance of society towards surrogacy.

Chori Chori Chupke Chupke emphasised more on the love story of Raj and Priya and turned to be over dramatic. It lost focus from the seriousness of surrogacy and the motherhood of the women. Mimi should have explored on the backstories of the protagonist which would give it a more emotional core while the punches of comedy by Bhanu made the audience intact to the film. The narrative became very predictable making it all too obvious in the underwhelming climax.

The climax scene of Mimi which bought a twist in it, where the American couple adopting an orphan child gave a social message to the people gave a film a different angle to look within whereas Madhubala's leaving the family of Raj with the promise of starting a new life depicts that even escorts want to live a normal life away from the vurgularity of society.

Both the films raised one of social norms of the society and many taboos which people don't want to frequently talk about should be bought into focus through the mainstream bollywood as film is the powerful medium to bring reforms in the society.
